Hi guys some help would be appreciated with the following. I have 2 wallet.dat backups from the same wallet but I’m assuming at different times backed up from 2013 which were from an early version of bitcoin QT application, I believe 1 may have been from windows and the other from Mac I’m not sure if that makes any difference, I no longer have the PCs in which they were created or anything other than the wallet.dat files. I have downloaded bitcoin core V26 and restored both wallet files and synchronised to the blockchain network. Both wallets show all transactions made and current balance, both wallets balance match but 1 wallet which I assume was the original shows initial transaction btc received followed by 3 transactions of sent btc so the transactions show incoming x – a – b – c = available balance, and the other wallet shows x – a then sends the remaining balance to address and receives that balance at that address to reflect correct balance, it then repeats this for transaction b and c where it subtracts my transaction followed by emptying balance and receiving again at new address.
I am having trouble with accessing due to incorrect passphrase, I thought I had a pretty good idea of the passphrase but appears to be difficult, my question is is there anything I could be missing that could be causing this? Would both backups have the same passphrase? One file is 64kb the other is 80kb if that’s any significance Can a 2013 bitcoin qt backup simply be restored into the latest bitcoin core wallet without any issues, there was no seed phrase at the time and I don’t recall there being any requirements for the passphrase other than being 10 or more characters, is there a way to find out what date the wallet.dat files were created in the encryption? If I can see all transactions and available balance does that mean that the file is good and the coins are 100% there and all that’s stopping me is the passphrase, is there a limit to the number of attempts I can try to get the passphrase. Are there any legitimate company’s in Australia preferably that can brute force the passphrase. The balance is high enough that I would of course make it worth while for anyone that is able to help me access them. Sorry for the long ramble but I am basic with computer skills and I don’t understand a lot of the solutions to issues asked previously. Any help is appreciated
