To make sure you don’t “get scammed” (a.k.a. the payment gets reverted) you want to follow these steps:
- Once your customer has broadcasted the transaction where he or she pays you, ask him or her for the transaction ID. It is a fairly long chain of alphanumerical characters. Example: 175a9bffc0e84a7507c94ab8c28ade40e629f051bd14f7f5fd4c2b0a0e9824a4 (this is the coinbase transaction of block 910025).
- Navigate to a block explorer, such as mempool.space and look for the transaction ID that the customer sent you.
- Check the number of confirmations of said transaction. As a standard, once a transaction gets 6 confirmations or more it is considered final and therefore irreversible in practice, ensuring you won’t get scammed.
Hope this was helpful, if you have any doubt don’t hesitate to ask back!
