Fusaka shipped PeerDAS in addition to a myriad of minor features and Glamsterdam’s major features will include Block-level Access Lists and enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation.
Now we begin outlining the subsequent upgrade: Hegotá.
Timeline
Jan 8th – Feb 4th: Headliner proposals (EthMag)
Feb 5th – Feb 26th*: Headliner discussion & finalization (ACD calls)
30-day window to follow: Non-headliner EIP proposals (Hegota Meta EIP)
*subject to change
Headliner proposals
Hegota’s major features (”headliners”) will be chosen first. These features, presented as EIPs, can be submitted on the Ethereum Magicians forum beginning January 8th, using a template that will be posted in the EIP Meta thread. This template will ask authors to justify the feature’s inclusion, assess its positive and negative impact on users, evaluate its technical readiness, and designate a champion for the EIP. The champion serves as a point-of-contact and is responsible for making progress on technical feedback. For previous examples, see the Resources section at the bottom of this post.
Proposals must be submitted by the February 4th deadline and presented at an All Core Devs call to be considered. Once presented, a proposal is moved to Proposed status by the champion opening a pull request against the Meta EIP, placing the EIP in the “Proposed for Inclusion” section.
One headliner, FOCIL, already appears in the Considered section; it was previously discussed for inclusion in the Glamsterdam upgrade and later deferred as part of a scope-reduction decision. It is included here to reflect that prior discussion and ongoing interest.
Headliner discussion & finalization
The following ~four All Core Dev calls will then be used to deliberate between proposals. Assessment is generally around need and urgency for Ethereum and its users and the complexity and security considerations of implementing the change. The Ethereum community is invited to voice their opinions on these proposals via the Ethereum Magicians forum – a community feedback template will be posted when this period is open.
Non-headliner EIP proposals
Once the headliner is chosen, there will then be a 30-day window to propose minor features (”non-headliners”). These are proposed by opening a pull request during that time window against the Meta EIP, placing the EIP in the “Proposed for Inclusion” section.
The latest version of the timeline can be followed on Forkcast. Those interested in following the tentative technical schedule can visit the Forkcast schedule page.
