Why a node would ever relay a transaction?

  • Relaying consumes bandwidth without offering any immediate reward or incentive.

  • Relaying reduces the node’s advantage in including high-fee transactions, since broadcasting them allows other miners to compete to include them in their own blocks.

Given these points, what mechanisms (if any) incentivize nodes to relay transactions rather than keep them private?
