Key Takeaways

  • Unitree delivered more than 5,500 humanoid robots during 2025.
  • China’s robot exports face new U.S. restrictions and security scrutiny.
  • Green contrasts overseas hardware orders with financed U.S. AI demand.

Unitree’s Shipments Strengthen China’s Physical AI Position

China’s expanding robot production could give investors exposure to physical artificial intelligence demand outside the U.S. technology sector, Devere Group CEO Nigel Green said Aug. 17. Green said manufacturers were pursuing overseas customers in Europe and Southeast Asia as he contrasted physical exports with heavily financed U.S. artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Unitree Robotics said its actual 2025 humanoid robot shipments exceeded 5,500 units, referring only to machines sold and delivered to end customers. The Hangzhou company reported production above 6,500 units, excluded wheeled and other robot formats, and cautioned against combining different robot categories in direct comparisons.

Green contrasted China’s overseas hardware sales with vendor-supported revenue arrangements in the United States, saying:

“China’s export wave looks nothing like that. It is hardware shipped to real ports and installed on real factory floors overseas, demand that shows up in customs data rather than in vendor-financing footnotes.”

Available industry estimates put Tesla and Figure AI each at a few hundred humanoid robot shipments or less during 2025. Those figures make the direction of Unitree’s production advantage clearer than any unsupported company-by-company comparison built around an exact 150-unit estimate.

Beijing Conference Will Test Commercial Demand

Beijing’s World Robot Conference will provide the next major test of whether China’s manufacturing scale can translate into orders and practical deployments. The Aug. 19-23 conference program includes more than 300 exhibitors, over 2,000 exhibits, and more than 150 products scheduled to appear publicly for the first time.

Green linked China’s 2025 shipment totals with the industry’s broader manufacturing momentum before the Beijing event, saying:

“Volumes like that are the proof. An entire supply chain is moving up the value curve at a pace Western competitors are still underestimating, and this week in Beijing will show it in real time.”

Commercial activity extends beyond outright equipment sales as Chinese companies seek near-term uses for machines that still require substantial human support. AGIBOT’s SHAREBOT platform logged more than 5,500 rental orders in its first three months for exhibitions, performances, and promotional events, showing demand while revealing current limits on autonomous operation.

Washington has simultaneously narrowed a potential export destination for Chinese manufacturers through new equipment-authorization restrictions. The Federal Communications Commission’s July 28 action generally blocks new foreign-produced humanoid and quadruped robot models from receiving authorization for U.S. importation, marketing, or sale, while leaving previously authorized devices and federal purchases unaffected.

Export Orders Contrasted With Wall Street Financing

Green’s argument centers on how demand is funded rather than whether U.S. companies are building useful infrastructure. Nvidia and six financial institutions signed memorandums of understanding for proposed financing platforms targeting more than $500 billion in third-party capital over time. The proposed partnerships remain subject to final agreements, and the institutions would independently assess customers, utilization, cash flow, and equipment values before approving individual transactions.

The planned Nvidia structure includes possible residual-value support covering as much as 25% of an individual financing opportunity. That mechanism differs from direct circular financing, yet it illustrates how chip suppliers, customers, and capital providers increasingly intersect as the AI buildout demands hundreds of billions of dollars for data centers and computing equipment.

The Devere executive warned that concentrated positions in American artificial intelligence companies carry financing risks that extend beyond operating performance, saying:

“Investors who have been sitting entirely inside the US AI complex are exposed to financing structures I have already flagged as fragile.”

He framed overseas order books as a diversification tool for investors concentrated in American artificial intelligence companies, saying: “Adding exposure tied to genuine overseas order books, across robotics, automation and industrial hardware, gives a portfolio real distance from that circularity. Every AI-heavy portfolio needs that distance before the next repricing arrives.”

Investors still face policy, execution, and demand risks on both sides of the comparison, including restrictions that could reshape supply chains without eliminating China’s manufacturing advantage. The U.S. foreign-robot restrictions may steer Chinese producers toward other markets, while Beijing’s procurement sessions on Aug. 20 could show whether overseas interest is converting into contracts.
