Commission Cites Security Review in Layerzero Deprecation
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has said that Wyoming has fully migrated its state-backed digital asset, the Frontier Stable Token (FRNT), off Layerzero and adopted Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its exclusive cross-chain infrastructure. The announcement of the switch came less than two weeks after Bitgo swapped Layerzero for CCIP.
Commission officials stated that the upgrade to Chainlink CCIP was initiated to maintain high standards of security, governance, and operational integrity. The decision follows a detailed security review by the Commission, which raised concerns about Layerzero’s operational security and disclosure practices. Consequently, the Commission opted to deprecate the original Layerzero implementation.
“The Commission proactively conducted a security review and identified concerns regarding LayerZero’s disclosure practices and operational security,” said Anthony Apollo, Executive Director of the Wyoming Stable Token Commission. “Following the review, the Commission decided to adopt Chainlink CCIP as it is the only cross-chain infrastructure that met our stringent security and reliability requirements across the board”.
Chainlink’s LINK briefly pushed back to $9.70 after the announcement, breaking out of its post–Aug. 15 drift above $9.40. The move lifted daily gains past 3%, restoring the token’s double‑digit advance over the past week.
Wyoming launched FRNT as a fiat-backed, fully reserved digital dollar to support payments and settlement for individuals, businesses, and public-sector entities. In line with a November 2023 recommendation, a Wyoming committee has been deployed across eight public blockchains: Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, Hedera, Optimism, Polygon, and Solana.
Chainlink CCIP provides cross-chain transfer functionality supported by a defense-in-depth security model. Its features include SOC 2 Type 2 institutional certification, built-in risk controls, and a decentralized architecture in which transactions are validated by a minimum of 16 independent node operators.
CCIP is built on the same oracle infrastructure that has enabled over $33 trillion in transaction value across decentralized finance and traditional financial institutions. “Wyoming is building public-sector financial infrastructure with the Frontier Stable Token, and that carries a responsibility to protect the people, businesses, and institutions that rely on it,” Apollo said. “By adopting Chainlink CCIP, we now have highly secure cross-chain infrastructure that meets the standard our citizens deserve”.
Sergey Nazarov, co-founder of Chainlink, stated that Wyoming’s move illustrates how government entities require secure infrastructure to transfer digital assets across networks at scale.
“Wyoming has consistently been a leader in digital asset policy and public-sector blockchain adoption, and their selection of CCIP shows that governments and other serious institutions need secure, reliable, and standard-setting infrastructure,” Nazarov said.
State officials noted that the migration offers a framework for other state governments, financial institutions, and asset managers seeking to issue regulated digital assets while meeting institutional security standards.
