corruptedblockchain – Corrupted block database detected

I am able to run bitcoin core 26.0 on my machine, with blockchain updated right up to now.

I have also downloaded binaries for and tried to run bitcoin core 28.0, without success.

I am getting the following error message when I try to run 28.0

Corrupted block database detected. Do you want to rebuild the block database now?

Why won’t bitcoin core 28.0 run on my machine? Do I have to download the entire bitcoin blockchain again, in order to run bitcoin core 28.0?

Update: now bitcoin core 26.0 is refusing to run, and giving me the same error message as 28.0 – corrupted block database…do you want to rebuild block database?

I have already reindexed the entire blockchain, which took over one day.
