Bitcoin.com will integrate USDU, the first USD-backed stablecoin registered with the Central Bank of the UAE as a Foreign Payment Token, into the self-custodial Bitcoin.com Wallet, giving users a Stablecoin whose backing they don’t have to take on faith. USDU is issued by Universal under the regulation of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in the Abu Dhabi Global Market as a Fiat-Referenced Token, and is the first and currently only registered Foreign Payment Token under the Central Bank of the UAE’s Payment Token Services Regulation. Every USDU is backed 1:1 by liquid USD reserves held with regulated UAE banks. These reserves are independently attested each month by a third-party accounting firm, with the reports published on Universal’s website so users can verify the figures themselves. What this means for people using the Bitcoin.com Wallet:

  • Hold dollars on your own terms. USDU (ERC-20 on Ethereum) will be supported in the web and mobile wallet. Hold, send, and receive it self-custodially, with your keys and your funds under your control, and the issuer’s reserves published monthly.
  • Send value without borders. Receive USDU from anyone, anywhere it’s available: a stable unit for saving, invoicing, or moving money between apps and wallets.
  • Pay with it. Bitcoin.com will accept USDU as payment for designated Bitcoin.com services, and will work to enable USDU payments between users and merchants across its products.
  • Understand what you’re holding. In-wallet “Learn-to-Earn” content and a stablecoin education series will explain how fiat-backed tokens work, what reserve attestations mean, and how regulated issuance differs from the alternatives.

Swap and buy/sell functionality will follow as third-party provider support becomes available. Availability of USDU and related features varies by jurisdiction.

Corbin Fraser, Bitcoin.com CEO: “People shouldn’t need to be forensic accountants to know what backs the stablecoin they hold. USDU’s registration with the UAE central bank and monthly attested 1:1 reserves mean users can verify the backing instead of trusting a logo. That’s the standard we want our wallet users to expect.”

“Good standards only matter if people can actually use them. Bringing USDU to the Bitcoin.com Wallet combines self-custody with what users should expect from a stablecoin: clear regulatory status, 1:1 backing by liquid USD reserves held with regulated UAE banks whose identities are publicly disclosed, and monthly independent attestations they can check for themselves,” said Juha Viitala, Senior Executive Officer at Universal.USDU’s smart contract has been independently audited by Certik, and distribution is provided by Aquanow, a VARA-licensed virtual asset service provider.
